Once any repairs have been taken care of, our teams will use progressively finer grades of sandpaper to sand away years of grime and dirt, taking your floorboards back to fresh wood. We’ll then colour your floorboards using organic stains and waxes, or for high traffic areas we’ll seal the surface with the latest lacquers and varnishes. We try to use organic and natural products where possible. Traditional wood stains are often solvent or oil-based. However, today there are a number of modern water-based stains now available. Will it be messy or inconvenient?

At Refinishing Wood Floors Co., we believe that a job isn’t finished until we’ve cleaned up and left your home or business looking as tidy as it was when we walked in. We use the very latest sanding equipment that captures 90% of the dust as it works, so you don’t have clouds of dirt billowing around your home or office. We also make sure that a key part of our preparation is to clear the room of any furniture, put dust sheets over any remaining items, and tape windows and doors to stop any small amounts of dust we generate from migrating to other parts of your home.

By its very nature, sanding wooden floors generates dust, but by using the very latest equipment we capture the vast majority of that at source.

The process takes around a day to complete, and a further 1-2 days to allow any stains, polishes, waxes or lacquer top coats to dry properly. You should then be able to move your furniture back into the room and start using it again, keeping inconvenience down to a minimum.
